Between yesterday and today, I queried sixteen agents about their interest in representing my memoir, which….drumroll, please…I believe to be done, finally, after eight years!

I can’t quite believe it, but there it is. 210 pages staring me in the face. Wow, wow, wow.

This morning, I got a response to one of the queries, saying she liked the idea and I should feel free to send her a proposal…so I’ve been writing THAT all day! Ugh. But I have some samples to work from and it’s a good mind exercise to force myself to articulate this stuff.

Still, I also did some research and found other writers who responded to agents requesting proposals for memoir with an offer to just send the completed manuscript in lieu of the proposal. So I replied that I’d be glad to work up a proposal but I can also just send the manuscript. Or, I can send the manuscript with the proposal. Whichever. We’ll see what she says.

I have to say that even if nothing happens beyond this, I feel hugely affirmed. My query makes it plain that this is NOT a traditional, chronological narrative and she didn’t shoot the idea down out of hand! So yes, there must be a market for this stuff.
